OUR SCIENCE

It all starts with the heart

The heart produces a key hormone (peptide) which regulates the body’s blood pressure and metabolic health.

Atrial Natriuretic Peptide (ANP)

The cardiac peptide hormone atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), first discovered in 1981 by Adolfo DeBold, is the heart’s regulator of cardiovascular and metabolic function. ANP mediates vasodilation, increased salt excretion, and reductions in aldosterone via the effector molecule cGMP. Additionally, ANP protects the heart from hypertrophy and fibrosis, improves insulin sensitivity, and enhances mitochondrial production while protecting the body from hypertension and metabolic syndrome.

WHAT WE DO

E-Star BioTech, is developing a platform of GC-A agonist (guanylyl cyclase A receptor agonist) for the treatment of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. Our best-in-class GC-A activator targets the GC-A signaling pathway and the effector molecule cGMP, is currently entering Phase 2 clinical trials.
